Gretsch G9480 Laydie Belle Irish Tenor Banjo at a Glance
- Traditional materials and construction give you authentic tone and playability
- Alternate tuning options lend versatility and appeal
- This traditional acoustic instrument celebrates Gretsch's roots in American music
The G9480's Whyte-Laydie tone ring and three-ply solid maple rim are covered with an 11" Remo High Crown Renaissance head, surrounded by a 24-tension bracketed and notched hoop, giving your playing loud and proud, stand-out-from-the-crowd sound. The short-scale, three-piece maple/walnut/maple neck has a 17-fret rosewood fingerboard that is comfortable to play and fast for your quick solo runs. Your tuning and intonation have been carefully attended to with a convenient knotless-type tailpiece and geared die-cast machine heads to keep you playing longer between tunings. For looks to match the vintage tone, Gretsch gave the Laydie Belle iconic B&D inlays and a Vega-style armrest.
Alternate tuning options give you versatility and appeal
Talk about a Laydie with a lot of appeal! You'll be hard-pressed to find another instrument that can treat you as well as this gal does. While the G9480 comes strung to play in GDAE tuning like a mandolin or fiddle, by switching up the gauge of your strings you can easily change the tuning to CGDA for standard tenor, or DGBE, making it more accessible and playable if you're a guitar or ukulele player. No matter what you play, an Irish tenor banjo will easily and instantly double your repertoire!
This traditional acoustic instrument celebrates Gretsch's roots in American music
At AudioBuy.com.au Australia, we play all kinds of music, from metal to hip hop, and we're especially enjoying the resurgence of American roots music. Thanks to Gretsch's dedication to giving the world historically accurate instruments, getting back to those beginnings is exciting. Everyone knows Gretsch electric guitars and drums, but did you know that they got their start in 1883 as a banjo company? As a part of their Roots collection, the Laydie Belle gives you a chance to own one of Gretsch's earliest instruments. It wasn't long before Gretsch was making mandolins, ukuleles, and eventually flat-top guitars, contributing to the very roots of American music. So when you pick up a Gretsch G9480, you're holding more than a great banjo, you're holding a piece of American music history.
